This collection of essays on the Book of the Twelve represents the works of James D. Nogalski over the course of his career. The essays are arranged methodologically and chronologically to facilitate dialogue and to provide a valuable resource for classroom use. The first part deals with redactional issues ranging from what redactional role particular texts play within the individual writing and the larger corpus of the Twelve to the function of the redactional work in creating meaning among and between the writings. The second section explores several of the collective themes that transcend the individual writings within the Book of the Twelve by engaging the synchronic work of others, as well as a treatment of the changing roles of Jerusalem, Samaria, and Bethel as they appear in the Twelve as a whole. The third section contains three essays involving diverse aspects of intertextuality through author-centered and reader-centered approaches. The final grouping of essays presents two relatively short text-critical articles and a longer study on the role of David in the Psalter. The variety of methods employed by one scholar, as well as the diverse texts treated, makes this volume useful for exploring changes in the field of prophetic studies in the last quarter century.--Publisher's description.
